Craft Room Before and After Part.1

FINALLY! I am BACK!

I took a bit of a vacation from here with the passing of my Great Grandma last month, and then Dru had his vacation the last few weeks, so we've been traveling a lot to see family. We needed to reconnect with our loved ones and make some memories because you really don't know how long you have with them....It was relaxing, and hectic all at the same time. I'm happy to be home though!


Not to mention the fact that the past six months that we've lived here, I have been keeping all my craft supplies in the kitchen, and it was a mess. I was completely unmotivated to make any thing because I had stuff EVERYWHERE!



This was the hutch in our kitchen dedicated to craft supplies. I had a room waiting to be turned into a craft room, but we kind of just used it to store boxes and other random things that we didn't know what to do with...

Scary right?!?! HORRIFYING!

BUT....Dru surprised me.

My birthday was last week, and when I went to visit family, Dru cleaned the craft/storage/disaster room, and bought me everything I needed! then he sent me a text saying "Happy Birthday!"

It was the best surprise I could hope for, and I am so lucky to have a husband who puts so much effort into something just for me. I couldn't be more thankful for him!

I actually screamed! and couldn't wait to come home to decorate!

So here is a little tour of half of the room! The other half needs work still...ENJOY!

Grandma Inga

Yesterday, our family lost the most amazing woman you have ever met.
She was my Great Grandma Inga.

She loved and took everyone in under her wing, and if she had an opinion, you heard it!
She was wild, going wherever the wind blew. Traveling the world every year to visit family and friends. She always sent a birthday card to you-whether it was her children, her grand children, great grand children-she remembered you. Her cards were usually hand made to boot. She was an amazing artist, tarot reader, A wonderful cook, and was always down for a good party.

 She always took her vitamins, and one thing I remember her telling me when I was a teenager, was that "you can't cook dinner without a glass of wine in your hand". Everything about Inga was unique. Her style was amazing. flowy skirts and shirts, funky hats, beautiful jewelry.Her attitude towards life was simple, positive, and no matter who you were to her, friend, son, daughter,grandchild, she radiated that positivity to you, and it was contagious. I always felt like I could run away and be a gypsy too when I was around her.

The shock is still in effect, and to me, it still feels like she is in Costa Rica, dancing with her friends, and digging her toes into the sand. I have moments where I am fine, and then moments where I am crying, then moments where I'm laughing and joking . I guess it's how I deal.
One thing that breaks my heart, is that my own kids are too young, and they won't get the chance to remember her the way I will remember her. I guess it's my job to make sure they know. To tell them stories about their free as a bird great great grandma who followed her own path, and lived a life full of colour and beauty.

Our Valentines Day in Pictures.

We didn't do much for Valentines this year. I taped some hearts up, make heart shaped food, and snuggled with my kiddos while Dru worked all day. We love each other every day, so we don't need a special day to prove that. I do like to decorate for the kidletts though. My three year old didn't understand,and told me to take the decorations down haha.

She likes to crochet.

Valentines wouldn't be complete without a dramatic tantrum on the floor.

I let him eat jello for dinner...two servings. 

Banana Bread Recipe

In a perfect world, men and women would be checking their mail in the morning, waving hello to to their neighbour who is just on their way to work.
"Good morning Mr. Smith!"
"Good morning to you too!"

In a perfect world, people would rush over to meet their new neighbours with baked goods in hand, and asking if they can help with any thing.

I want to live in that world.
So I'm going to make it happen. We have a new neighbour, and I've been watching her move her stuff in for the past few days (I know... I sound totally creepy right?)
Anyway, I started pinning neighbour gift ideas on Pinterest, but I never get to the store, and I don't really have any cash to spend...lammmmeee.
So I opened up my trusty recipe book, and got to work.




Banana bread is a big treat around here...we usually never have ripe bananas left over for baking because my husband eats them all. he will probably cry a bit because I am giving this banana bread away actually...

I didn't take any pictures of the actual baking because I never intended for this to be a blog post. I decided after I wrapped the bread up all cute, that I had to share it!

Here is my favorite recipe for banana bread. I don't remember where or who I got it from, it is not my own recipe, but I would like to share it with you :)

Banana Bread
Ingredients:
3 or 4 ripe bananas
1/3 cup melted butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
pinch of salt
1 1/2 cup flour

Preheat oven to 350F
Mix mashed up bananas with the melted butter in a large mixing bowl.

add in the sugar,egg,vanilla,baking soda,salt, and flour,mix until well blended.
Pour mixture into a greased bread pan and bake for 1 hour.
then cool on rack!

Super easy, and you can add in whatever you want, like maple, or blueberries....we like blueberries.
